Do Cell salts restore your sense of taste?

Loss of taste buds are caused by numerous issues.

One of the common causes of loss of taste is typically due to being low in the mineral zinc, vitamin B12 or folic acid.

If you are exposed to cigarette smoking, this also reduces the sense of taste. Stop smoking or being exposed to smoke.

Consider taking the full amount of the US RDA of zinc. You may find a liquid zinc here:

Taking a potent vitamin b12 and folic acid formula is also highly recommended. You may find an effective B vitamin formula with folic acid here.

In terms of cell salts, it may be a deficiency in one or many of the salts. Consider taking BioPlasma each day. It is easiest to add 25 tablets of BioPlasma to a liter of water. Drink throughout the day.

Acidity with Bowel Gas

Question:

I am suffering from acidity and bowel gas with slight pain in my right upper abdomen I was also diagnosed for polyp in galbladder what should be my remedy? Thanks

Hi Richard -

Sorry to hear that you have some pain.

Pain should be evaluated by your physician. There could be a blockage in your gall bladder causing the pain - or some other cause.

Mild gall bladder congestion is common and can be relieved by:
1. reducing fatty foods as fatty foods require bile to be made and released from the gall bladder,
2. drinking 8 cups of filtered water per day,
3. chewing your food very well before swallowing,
4. and reducing stress as stress closes sphincters which release enzymes and bile acids causing congestion.

How do you know you suffer from acidity? Do you mean you have a problem with acid reflux?

The above suggestions also apply for acid reflux along with reducing ingestion of spicy foods and sugars.

I am a fan of cell salt therapy, but in this instance it may not be enough.

Consider using nutrients which are designed to reduce bile congestion. Liver-GI Detox by Pure Encapsulations is a good formula to help gall bladder congestion.

Suffering from excessive gas and bloating is related also to digestion. If your gall bladder is not functioning up to speed, you will not effectively digest fats causing gas. Hot all the time

I am strangely hot all the time. I am a healthy 31 yo female who was on birth control pills for a couple of years for heavy periods and bad cramps. I did not like the risks and so I stopped taking them (I have been off them for more than 5 years now).
I am relatively fit (exercise 3-4 times each week) eat pretty healthy except for my sweet tooth, and do not consider myself overweight. I am 5′4″ at 128 pounds. Yet, I sweat all the time and feel overheated even in the winter. I work with a lot of good sized guys and I can freeze them out! I wear a short sleeved tee work shirt outside when its snowing! I asked my doctor to run some tests to check for any imbalances and she says everything is normal- Must admit I’m not sure I believe her. Do you have any ideas or suggestions?

Answer:
Hi Julie -

You are right to question something that appears fine in lab tests,but not in reality.

As my professors said over and over:
- A lab test is only designed to confirm a diagnosis, not provide one.
- History is 90% of the diagnosis, Lab tests are the other 10%

Since you were on birth control pills for some time, they may have altered your hormones enough to cause excessive sweating.

There is a product called OptiGyn which I used all the time in clinic. If a woman had irregular cycles or any abnormal menstrual concerns, I reached for OptiGyn while narrowing down the actual cause.

Consider taking 2 tablets of OptiGyn two to three times a day.

There are other possible causes of excessive sweating:
- hyperthyroidism or Grave’s Disease
- not eating frequently enough
- low blood sugar
- stress or anxiety
- chronic infection somewhere
- food allergies or food intolerances

Consider having your physician order:
- Estrogen Fractionation test
- Female Hormone Panel
- TSH
- anti-TPO
- anti-TG
- Free T4
- T3

Ensure that you eat 3 balanced meals each day and snack after workouts. An energy bar works great 30 minutes before workout or after. Not eating properly or enough can cause excessive sweating, typically with some cold chills.

If your heart rate is fast even in a resting state or speeds up quickly on its on, there may be a thyroid imbalance going on.

Food allergies or food intolerances also may cause excessive heat and sweating. The common food allergens are wheat, egg and dairy. Try avoiding those for 2 weeks and see if your sweating and excessive heat has reduced. Also keep a journal about how you feel before you start eliminating these foods. You likely will feel fantastic once you avoid these foods.

I am a huge fan of organic free range eggs but some people cannot eat them. If avoiding egg is tough, try avoiding dairy and wheat for the two weeks. This is all dairy: cheese, yogurt, milk, ice cream, etc.

That is not possible you say It is. I and my entire family do not eat dairy or wheat. It takes some learning and preparation. But once you do it for some time, it becomes easy.

Your sweet tooth may be causing excessive sweating as well. Try to cut back on sweets and see how that effects you. Or if you eat something sweet, follow it with some protein such as nuts.

If your temperature did not run hot until after you stopped the birth control, then there may be a pretty strong connection between the hormone levels and your sweating.

Ask your doctor to run some of those tests I mentioned.

Do consider trying some of the suggestions above. If you take the OptiGyn and notice improvement, then that is a pretty good sign that something is off hormonally. The benefit of OptiGyn is that it is a women’s multivitamin as well!

Do let me know what you discover and how you are feeling in a couple months time.

One other thing: stop drinking out of plastic water bottles if you are. Plastic water bottles contain bisphenol-a which is an estrogen mimic. This causes all sorts of hormone imbalanes in women, men and children. Use glass or stainless steel bottles instead.

Vitamin D3

Question:

Is there a reason that Liquid D3 should not be taken by pregnant or lactating women? It is my understanding that taking up to 4,000 i.u. per day shows no adverse affects. Please let me know, as I would like to up my intake. I am currently taking the Pure Encapsulations Prenatal vitamins which provides 400 i.u. of D3. Thanks.

Hi Heather -

You may take the D3 in 4,000 IU to 5,000 IU doses when pregnant and lactating.

I recommend that you get your D3 levels checked now and again in 3 to 5 months.

Pure Encapsulations Liquid D3 contains 1,000 IU per drop.

We have another Liquid Vitamin D3 by RX Vitamins that contains 2,000 IU per drop and is less expensive. It is also as pure. I personally use this

Hi Heather -

Breastfeeding will pass the vitamin D3 to your toddler. This is why it is recommended now by many to supplement with 5,000 IU of Vitamin D3 when pregnant or breastfeeding.

Great to hear your midwife will check your D3 levels in a few months.

B12: Always go for methylcobalamin which is the superior form of B12. Cyanocobalamin is good but not the best.

Place 1-3 ml under your tongue as you or your midwife feel as necessary. It is best to take it more often than one large dose. This way you will absorb more of the B12.

Make sure you keep taking the Folic acid while taking the B12.

I do recommend also that you get a quality fish oil to encourage healthy brain development in your toddler. A great tasting one that he/she would like is Frutol. My boys love it.

Follow the instructions on the bottle for guidance. Give with meals.

One last thing is to supplement your toddler with a probiotic. I recommend that you provide HLC Neonate since he is still breastfeeding. Loads of research show probiotics given early in life are key to a healthy overall immune function. Consider giving your toddler twice the recommended dose on the bottle - thus, give him/her 2 billion per day. Once or twice a day should be fine.

For you, consider taking the Cod Liver Oil. It tastes great - I personally use it daily along with my wife. We take it straight following meals or we put in a smoothie. If you prefer capsules, consider Ultra EPA/DHA With Essential Oil of Orange

Once your toddler gets a bit older to 4 yrs old, consider providing a multivitamin for him/her as well. My boys take the Pedianutrients by Pure Encapsulations

I started my boys on it when they were three. If they could not swallow it, I used the powdered form.

Why did I choose the Cloud B Twilight Animals? My accountant asked me the same thing. He said: “Focus Ben focus. Don’t lose focus. Now you’re selling toys and animals?!” 

We had a good laugh and then he became serious once I told him about how the Twilight Animals do not disrupt melatonin levels causing sleep disturbance and cranky kids the next morning.

I have three boys: 1, 4, and 7. Believe me, I want my boys to sleep well.

We have gone through many nightlights for various reasons.

One reason:
Given my medical training, I do not like most nightlights because they release too much light, which disrupts the melatonin pathway. Melatonin is released in complete darkness and goes away with complete light ,which partly explains sleepiness and wakefulness.

 I like my boys to wake rested, alert, and ready to go without having to worry if they got a good night’s rest.

Second reason:
Having a glass light bulb exposed like that is just not a good idea. I replaced bulb after bulb and luckily didn’t have to remove any glass shards from my boys’ hands or feet.

Third reason:
My boys always pulled the other nightlights out of the walls. They loved the image on the front: Batman, cows, stars, what-have-you, and would walk around the house with the nightlight. Thus, the nightlights got lost or broken all the time.

Q: What stands out about the Twilight Animals from Cloud B?

A: They’re durable, cool looking, have automatic shut-off features, blue and green soft lights, and they’re safe.

My kids have tested the durability – and yes they did break one of the Twilight Sea Turtles. We brought it with us to Russia this last summer as our middle boy, Mathew, really wanted to bring it. He realized that it was not needed given that we had white nights there all summer but never mind

All the kids in our village loved the Twilight Sea Turtle even when it was not working. One day I was outside doing something and I saw the Twilight Sea Turtle take flight over and over again with the Gentle Giraffe. Then there was a crash landing against a tree. The Twilight Sea Turtle fared surprisingly well; however something inside busted and the switch did not work anymore. It stayed on or off.

So – I recommend that the Twilight Sea Turtle and other Twilight Animals stay indoors and not take flight. They will work for many years.

Cool looking speaks for itself. Even the tough Russian boys and girls loved them.

The Automatic shut-off is key. The soft blue and green light on the ceiling calms my boys down enough so we do not need any other bright nightlights. The setting is around 20 minutes which is how long it takes for the average kid to enter REM sleep. I keep ours on that setting. Then, after 20 minutes, the room is very dark.

So what happens if the kids wake up at night and have to do something? My kids do not. They sleep well. They are not restless. They do not get up to pee. They just sleep. I have many tricks for this and yes it is purely natural. Ask me sometime

Q: Are the Cloud B Twilight Animals good gifts for both boys and girls? Are there any in particular that you think are better suited for either boys or girls?

A: Definitely. Cloud B Twilight Animals are great for kids ages 10 and under I would say. Given that my oldest is 7, I am not at full liberty to say the proper age to stop with the nightlights. I should comment that two of our staff have the Twilight Animals – and they are in their 20’s.

I’d leave the second question up to the parents. Each kid is different. Some kids love the ladybugs, some love the turtles, some love the sea turtles. Some have no clue what they like so my guess is that any kid would like any one of them.

Since I have over 200 of these Twilight Animals in stock at any one time, my kids got really excited once when they saw a semi-truck pull up and unload pallets of them at our warehouse. Believe me, it was a fight getting them to pick just one.

Q: Do you have a personal favorite between the Twilight Turtle, Sea Turtle, or Ladybug?

A: I am not the type of person to have favorites. I enjoy many things which is one reason why I have such a large warehouse

However, what I can offer is from our sales data, the Twilight Sea Turtle is the most popular of the three followed by the Twilight Ladybug and then the Twilight Turtle.

 If I were forced to choose, I think I would choose the Twilight Sea Turtle myself.

Q: What are your absolute favorite features of the Twilight Animals, or any of the animals in particular?

A: My absolute favorite feature of the Twilight Animals is that they allow my boys to fall asleep, stay asleep, and wake rested. With all other nightlights, they were too bright for my oldest, Tasman, and too dark for my middle boy, Mathew.

Then add up the safety, durability, and cool factor and that is a pretty good factor also because that means the kids will use it allowing them to have more effective sleep.

Q: Though the Twilight Animals are for ages two and up, are they toys that older children or adults may like as well?

A: As I mentioned above, two of our staff members at HealthEGoods.com have Twilight Animals. I would as well but our youngest, Theo, would wake up as he sleeps in our room still. He is very sensitive to light. For Theo to go to sleep we use a different product which acts like a sunset. Ask me sometime…

I do have a 78-year-old friend though that loves the Twilight Animals.

So I would say the Twilight Animals are for 2-yrs. old and up as Cloud B recommends.

Q: How is the construction of the Twilight Animal plastic shells and light boxes? Do parents need to worry about the shells or lights breaking if they are dropped?

A: Not in the least. These Twilight Animals are tough.

We brought our Twilight Sea Turtle to Russia. It lived there well until it met its doom against a Birch tree trunk. We ‘fixed it’ and brought it back as Mathew would have had a fit if we left it there. I ended up getting another Twilight Sea Turtle from our warehouse when we got back and swapped it out for the damaged one.

Q: Do the Twilight Animals stay on all night, or do they shut themselves off after a certain time period?

A: There is a switch on the belly of the Twilight Animals. The default timer is 22 minutes and there is another setting for ‘restless kids’ at about 44 minutes. They do automatically shut off, which is a huge plus.

If it takes your child 44 minutes to fall asleep, there is another issue that might need to be worked out–or issues, such as:

What did your child do before sleep? Movie, Wii, TV, playdate, sports? All bad news. Should have at least 30 minutes of downtime reading a calming book or telling stories with parents. I love making up stories for my kids off the cuff.  Also, what did your child eat an hour before sleep? Multivitamins? Carb-loaded foods? Ice cream? All bad news. Gotta get some protein in there.

I can go on and on here. Gotta ask me sometime…

Q: Are the batteries and light bulbs easy to replace if they run out?

A: Yep. Simply turn over the Twilight Animal, do some minor surgery on their belly and out pops the batteries – two AA - which every parent has in the house.

Q: Are the Twilight Animals easy to clean if your child accidentally spills something on them?

A: Clean? We are supposed to clean them? I guess you could, given that their shell is durable and their feet and head are like a stuffed animal. Simply wipe it down with a damp–not wet–cloth.

Q: We’ve heard that the Twilight Animals double as educational tools, how?

A: They have little lights around the perimeter which light up when you push a button. Each time you push a button, a different animal is lit up. There is a book that comes with each Twilight Animal and educates the kids about them.

My boys read the book the first day, pushed the button and looked at all the animals for another week, and now it purely acts as a nightlight.

I think the educational part is a bit of a stretch personally. We lost the book already.

Q: Do the light boxes in the Twilight Animals’ shells make them heavy for children to carry?

A: They are extremely light. Theo, our 1-year-old boy, carries them around all the time.

Remember Mathew brought it with him to Russia. That was a 30-hour trip from door to door. Yes – he carried it in his backpack.

Q: Do you think the Twilight Animals do a good job of acting as night lights and possibly reducing children’s fears of the dark?

A: Definitely – without question. Mathew is quite spooked of the dark due to some help from his brother, Tasman. Tasman loves to tell stories and is way into Star Wars and monsters.

This doesn’t help put Mathew at ease before sleep.

His Twilight Sea Turtle does. 

I also help by telling Tasman to change the topic before we approach bedtime. He is good about it now.

Q: Do the Twilight Animals come with a warranty?

A: You know that is a good question. I am not sure. 

Of the 1,000 or more that we have sold, we have never had a defective one. 

According to Tony, We have had two returns simply because they did not want them or wanted to exchange them.

Q: In your opinion, are there any downsides to the Twilight Animals?

A: Downsides….hmmm – I am not sure.

I am sure there are some parents who say:

“Why doesn’t it stay on all night?”
Well – I answered that one for you.

“Why does it not have a plug in feature?”
Safety? Kids chewing on the cord? Not portable?

“Why isn’t it waterproof?”
What? Bath time? Wrong toy.

“I want more choices.”
More choices means harder to choose which one to get. The three options available are great.

If you noticed, the animals are all flat backed, which is necessary. You cannot have an effective Twilight Animal Triceraptops which would shine constellations directly at the kids’ faces preventing them from sleeping.

Q: Are there any other thoughts you have on the Cloud B Twilight Animals that you think parents should know about or keep in mind?

A: I think parents should rip out all the standard nightlights, turn off the hallway lights, and get a Twilight Animal.

Their kids will sleep much better, act better, and yes–get along with each other better.

ED NOS Treatment Considerations

My daughter has an eating disorder (ED NOS). She is under the care of a physician and therapist. She really loves the Biogenesis chocolate mint bars. I’m wondering if she eats one for a meal if she is getting a reasonable amount of nutrition in your opinion?

Hi Juliet -

Sorry to hear about your daughter’s eating disorder. I am glad she is under team care.

The Chocolate Mint bars by Biogenesis are a great source of B vitamins and some trace minerals along with some protein and healthy fats. So, for someone with an eating disorder, these bars a are decent meal.

However, ideally, we could potentially improve this if she mixes a scoop of Whey Protein powder in a glass of water (if she is not vegetarian).

Biogenesis Whey Protein has all 12 amino acids which she needs. If you could get an excellent tasting Whey Protein Powder in her along with the Chocolate Mint energy bars, then you would have one step closer to more complete nutrition.

The Whey Protein Vanilla is exceptionally good. She can mix it in almond milk, rice milk, or plain filtered water.

Given that the Whey Protein Vanilla tastes very good, I believe she may accept it. It is fast to prepare and is not a dense heavy meal - yet it is nutritious.

Bacterial Vaginosis

Is Vitanica okay to use if there is no yeast infection, but rather just a lot of burning and itching?

Hi there -

You may have Bacterial Vaginosis. This is a very common condition and may be helped with Yeast Arrest, an oral probiotic and HLC CandaClear.

Consider vitamin E and vitamin A suppositories as well. You may simply get liquid vitamin E and A and put a drop or two on a clean finger and apply internally. These nutrients will heal the tissues.

If you have a vitamin E gel cap, simply pierce with a needle and squeeze the contents on your clean finger and apply.

If you have trouble naturally lubricating during sex, consider more foreplay, increased water intake, testing your hormone levels or a natural lubricant.

During the use of these products, avoid sexual intercourse to prevent recurring infection to your partner and back to you.

I would like to add:

Getting a vaginal swab, Whiff Test, pap smear and/or gynecological exam is recommended in order to effectively diagnose and treat your symptoms effectively.

Bacterial vaginosis has a characteristic fishy odor to it and is diagnosed using the Whiff Test most commonly.

The Whiff Test is done by a lab tech or physician. They drop potassium hydroxide on a swab that was inserted vaginally. If the odor has a fishy smell, the test is positive.

You also may have a yeast infection, but not know it. The same protocol for your yeast infection may help reduce your symptoms.
